Vaisakhi celebrations by HCI in collaboration with OFIC

Celebration of Festival of Vaisakhi by HCI in collaboration with Overseas Friends of India-Canada

Festrival of Vaisakhi was celebrated by Overseas Friends of India-Canada (OFIC) in collaboration with the High Commission of India at St. Paul Catholic High School, Ottawa on Sunday, 28 April 2019. High Commissioner, Vikas Swarup who was the Chief guest addressed the gathering & congratulated and thanked Mr. Shiv Bhasker, President and Management of OFIC for the celebrations showcasing the rich cultural diversity of India. The event was also attended by Mr. Chadra Arya, Member of Parliament. The dignitaries spoke about contribution of Indian diaspora in Business development and Political fields, highlighted presence of tremendous opportunities for mutual learning and mutual advantage in a closer India-Canada partnership and that the India Diaspora in Canada can be a stronger bridge in linking both countries. High Commissioner also spoke about ongoing celebrations of 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and various events being organised by HCI to mark the occasion.

The cultural programme had some exceptional performances of various folk songs & dances of Punjab, West bengal, Rajasthan, Kerala, Maharashtra and Gujarat where the festival of Indian New Year is celebrated in different forms. The event was well attended by around 450 people. Refreshments were served in the end. A few photos of the event are attached.
